A Gentle Whisper: A small reflection of the 2023 Spirit & Truth Conference

1 Kings 19:12-13

12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

The story of Elijah and the whisper might be the best way to describe the presence of the Lord at the end of the 2023 Spirit & Truth Conference. It was a gentle weekend. A different weekend than we had planned. And (at least from the people I talked to) a weekend that was desperately needed by so many of us.

We heard the Lord’s whisper through all of the similarities in the talks - get low, humble yourself, come and die, plus so much more. We saw the beauty of God as people lined the room to be prayed over by Dr. Kim Maas.

And probably my favorite part - we ended the conference in the same place where we started it - on our knees.

In reflection, the Lord showed up and did what He always does - He showed His goodness.

I am so thankful for those of you who joined us in what many have been calling a “family reunion weekend” and our team was so blessed by your presence. It was a joy to be with you.

As you continue to do ministry in all of your local contexts we pray that this experience was one of encouragement and fresh breath. That the reminder of the presence of God would be the nudge to carry on.

Over the next couple of days, we will begin to post the audio from the conference here on our Substack. We’ll continue to share memories and testimonies on all of our platforms.

We would love to hear your reflections! If the Lord moves you to write, send us a reflection at info@spiritandtruth.life. Testimonies are one of the ways we strengthen each other!

The final thought I leave you with is this - you can do everything we did this weekend.

Spirit & Truth does not have proprietary rights to the Lord’s presence. Make time for Him. Make space for Him. And come expectant. He’ll show - even in a whisper.

Praying for YOU!
