Firebrand Magazine was launched by Spirit & Truth in 2020 as a resource to enhance theological dialogue within the Wesleyan/Methodist stream of Christianity. There are tens of millions of believers around the globe who find their roots in the Wesleyan revival of the 1700s. United Methodists, Global Methodists, Nazarenes, Free Methodists, AME, AME Zion, The Wesleyan Church, just to name a few, all come out of this tradition. Even global Pentecostalism, the fastest growing Christian movement in the world, has its origin in Wesleyanism and the early holiness movement. However, within this large segment of the church there are few public platforms where leading scholars and pastors can wrestle the theological issues of our day. Firebrand was launched to provide just such an opportunity. The church is fundamentally shaped by what she believes. Our leaders and pastors who so influence the trajectory of the church are shaped by what they believe. Firebrand is a resource for the renewal of serious theological reflection within orthodox Wesleyan theology and the outworking of practical ministry implications.

In some ways, Firebrand represents the “Truth” side of Spirit & Truth, and aims to help bring renewal to the church through theological formation. Firebrand currently has three primary ministry initiatives:

  1. Firebrand Magazine - A weekly online magazine aimed at theological reflection in various related traditions, including Methodist, Arminian, Holiness, Pentecostal, and others.

  2. Firebrand Podcast - An audio resource providing interviews, recordings of featured articles, and a fun cast that discuss culture, theology, Bible, and the work of the Holy Spirit, through the lens of the historic faith.

  3. Firebrand Theology Seminar - A summer intensive for seminary graduates who are serious about furthering their theological formation.
