Can You Follow?

This weekend our Spirit & Truth team traveled to Texas in order to work with a beautiful church in Moorville. Like many of our weekends, there were multiple churches present and we began the discovery process of what everyone “expected” from the weekend.

In the midst of the discovery, it became clear that the pastors present needed prayer. They needed fresh breath, and the opportunity to feel loved.

So we moved.

We changed the entire evening so that we could pause at that moment and pray over these anointed leaders.

I don’t tell you this as some sort of humble brag, honestly, 18 months ago I wouldn’t have changed anything. I would have stuck with the plan.

I simply share this with you to remind you that if you want to lead a movement, you must first be willing to follow the Holy Spirit.

And I’ll be frank - following the Holy Spirit is hard for me, because I am so scared to be wrong. I’m scared I’m misinterpreting the voice of God, and I’m scared I’ll lose all credibility with my church.

It’s easier to be bold in a church where no one knows me than to be bold in a church where I have to live.

So, why would I encourage you to follow the Holy Spirit?

Well, on the other side of obedience is intimacy. And that intimacy is what sustains us when we find ourselves in the midst of pain and turmoil. Said another way - in those dark moments of life when you aren’t sure you want to work in the church anymore, the intimacy with the Holy Spirit will keep you strong.

Following the Spirit today will sustain you tomorrow.

If you feel the nudge from God to do something different, or something that feels dramatic, or even something you aren’t sure about, let me encourage you - DO IT!! I don’t know how it will turn out, but I am thankful we serve a God that does.
