A Testimony of What God Has Done

One of my favorite spiritual disciplines is journaling. I have countless journals full of history with the Lord. They are full of praises, questions, trials, and celebrations. Every once in a while, I spend a few hours reading through the many journals, reading my history with God. Every time I do this, I am reminded of God’s nearness. I remember moments of discernment and His guidance. I recall times of heartbreak and how He comforted me. I look back to moments of breakthrough and recognize

how He delivered me. Doing this reminds me that He is still near, still guiding, still comforting, still delivering, and He is still God.

In Joshua 4, after Joshua leads Israel through the Jordan, they set up 12 memorial stones. Verse 6 tells us, “This may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.”

Our lives are meant to tell a testimony of what God has done. Oftentimes, I forget all that God has done for me. The discipline of journaling has forced me to recognize God’s hand in my life. My prayer is that I will be able to testify to the generations of God’s presence in my life. Journaling is one way I pay close attention to God’s presence. Not just for my sake, but so that I can testify to others.

Maybe journaling is a practice you implement in your own life! My prayer is that it would help you recognize God’s nearness and that it empowers you to testify to the generations.

If you want to start journaling but don’t know how to start, consider answering some of these prompts:

  • How is my relationship with God right now?

  • Where have I felt God’s presence recently?

  • What is God speaking to me about most in this season?
